Recommendations for ethnic in Easton?
My Lehigh Valley dining experiences have been clustered around Allentown and Bethlehem. That's no accident -- it's where I live and work, respectively. Other than Setta Luna, I've not written about any Easton-area restaurants. Any recommendations from the shores of the mighty Delaware? I'll scribe them onto my to-visit list and start trekking eastward. Thanks.

check out Touch of Thai. Best Thai restaurant in the Region....when its open.
Thanks for the recommendation. Is that the one on or near 2nd Street? I'm assuming the hours/days of operation are odd based on your comment. Thanks again.
...although "anonymous" has the right idea, Touch of Thai is hardly anything special. I highly recommend another recent arrival into Easton's burgeoning restaurant scene: SOGO, asian cuisine & sushi. The menu is a nice mix of Chinese, Japanese and Thai - and the sushi is wonderfully fresh and well-prepared. In fact, there are quite a number of great ethnic eateries either already here, or popping up. Feel free to stop by The Stevenson Group, Strategic Marketing & Advertising, on 4th street (www.stevensongroup.net). I'll give you the "comprehensive Easton" overview! Nice reviewing Mike! Keep up the great work!
Thanks, Peter. I've heard really promising comments about SOGO. It's on my list for an Easton culinary adventure.
Another vote here for Touch of Thai. The food is good and authentic Thai, reasonably priced, but the service tends to be a little slow (owner Wally moves slow and likes to chat with the patrons). Perhaps your preference will depend on whether you go for modern fusion cuisine or authentic ethnic fare.
Thanks for the counsel, anon 9:41. I'm more than willing to trade service speed for friendliness. I've learned a lot about food over the years by talking with owners and chefs. That's how you really get to know the cuisine -- they're like tour guides on your adventure.
Another vote for SOGO. My husband enjoyed the sushi tremendously and I enjoyed the tofu/vegetable thai curry dish. YUM!
We were there on a Saturday evening and the place was packed tight. I would have liked a little more room between me and my neighbor (and a little less noise).
Also, try Phenom (Thai/Vietnamese dishes). It's new and located on east Northampton Street down from SOGO. The owner has part of the charm and the food is good.
There is another Thai restaurant that recently opened on Northampton St. east of SOGO, Phenom... anyone been there? I have heard that the atmosphere lacks but the food and service is better than TOT.
Re Phenom, I'll trade atmosphere for authenticity any day. I think that's the next to visit so I can compare to the two Vietnamese spots in Allentown.
Thanks, all, for the recommendation on SOGO. I've heard others speak of it, too. I'll try to head there with at least one person so I can sample several items.
Sobo- not so great. Being from DC I can tell you that for real Thai, Japanese, Korean, etc food you are out of luck! BUT If you go to Assi (SP?) grocery store off 476 in North Wales (about 20 mins south) area you will be in LUCK! Check out the food court. (No frills but?) Sushi, Korean foods, etc..... All priced as they should be.

Have tried both SOGO and Phenom, both on Saturday nights. SOGO has the edge - service is attentive, and food is excellent. Phenom also has excellent food, but the night we were there, service was very poor - not only were the waitresses overworked, but seemed new and unfamiliar with even the basics - many patrons got up and left altogether, many of the rest of us got up and got our own silverware, asked the bartender for water or drinks. Meal was worth waiting for, and enjoyable in the courtyard. There is a lot of potential there with the right servers. Anyone tried The Standard since the switch from martini bar to fine dining? I have lived in Easton for 30 years, and am so happy downtown Easton has so many great places to enjoy a good meal.
Re: Phenom. I was excited to try this place after reading about them in the Morning Call and I REALLY wanted to love it especially since good places with AMPLE vegetarian options in the Lehigh Valley are so rare. However, I had a terrible experience there Friday just attempting to eat. Even though it wasn't terribly crowded, we waited 50 minutes just waiting for someone to take our order before we gave up and walked out. No one ever even brought us water. Flagged down servers and even what appeared to be a manager and still no one returned to help us. The atmosphere seemed nice and the menu looked very interesting but, well....
SOGO is great in Easton. One of the better sushi places in the Valley. Of course, I have yet to find sushi better than the original to LV...Robata's in Allentown. Mr. Shindo is wonderful!
I had a great experience at Phenom last night. Great Thai food, attentive service, AND awesome vegetarian choices. It is so cool that they offer seitan as a meat substitute. I was really impressed with the presentation, too. I wouldn't write off Touch of Thai, though..still a great, authentic place to get Thai food. I am going to check out Sogo tonight..*fingers crossed*
SOGO-- THE BEST SUSHI restaurant in PA. I am a big fans of sushi. I never have such a wonderful sushi in other places. I am trying to find a better sushi restaurant than SOGO, but i am sorry, i can't..... SOGO,, YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!!!
If you haven't been to RiverGrille in the recent past, you should make some time to come visit.
I'm a Sous Chef at RiverGrille, and with the addition of our new Executive Chef, Dan Goulet, the restaurant has been ascending culinary rank with amazing fervor.
We have a completely new dinner menu, as well as a month-old dessert menu.
We'd love to have you stop by sometime, and if you'd like I'd be glad to do a tasting menu off of our menu (or otherwise if you so desire). Feel free to talk to any of our Chef's as we are an open kitchen restaurant.
month old desserts?
