Black Orchid closed?

The Southern/soul food restaurant, Black Orchid, which moved into Louie’s on 12th and Liberty, appears to be closed. We tried to stop in last Friday night. The doors were locked, the lights were off and there was no note on the door. Later in the week, my wife stopped by and it was still closed. I know a lot of restaurants will close for a week or two in January for vacation; it’s a traditionally slow period for most eateries.

Anyone know anything different?

I've been in touch with the owner to cater an event in several weeks; she hasn't given me any indication they are closed for good.

I've never been there, but I did notice that they were hosting an inauguration party last week so that does seem strange.

Has anybody been to the new Asian/sushi place on Tilghman Street by Wegmans? I believe it used to be a coffee shop, a bunch of places have been in and out of that location.

I called the restaurant (484-664-7733) Saturday night at 5:30 and didn't get an answer. The message doesn't say anything about closing or changed hours. Still -- no answer at 5:30 on Saturday? I'll try again this week.

I hope they are still open. The food was great!

I hear a "Cajun restaurant" is going in at the closed LoBaidos. Could Black Orchid be moving?

hey michael, i know you've mentioned a couple times in the past you've been meaning to try out Balasia in Emmaus, well they will be closing in a few weeks (a temporary close for an undetermined amount of time) so if you want to get over there before that happens i strongly suggest going soon! more info here: http://lveggplant.wordpress.com/2009/01/31/if-theres-one-restaurant-you-need-to-experience-before-you-die/

sorry this has nothing to do with black orchid :P

God, I hope so. I hate to say that about a restaurant that had such awesome potential, but... COME ON. It was inevitable.

When I noticed the place was open, I was pretty excited since I lived blocks from the place and it seemed like the type of place I would frequent.

There were four tables of people there during the same two and a half hour period I was there. Two and a half hours -- why so long, you ask? Well, let's see. I ordered a cheese platter and my ex-husband ordered a salad as an appetizer. They brought them, exactly 65 minutes later. As my son said, "Dear Lord. Did they walk to Redners and buy the cheese?" Then, we finished the appetizers and waited... and waited... and waited. 45 minutes later, they brought the main dish.

The cheese platter was delish, the salad was easily the best I have ever had and the mac and cheese was to die for. But who can wait two and a half hours for food?

Not the people at the other tables, apparently. One table started yelling at the poor server. Another table left before their dinner came (after they had been waiting almost an hour).

The place has a talented cook, but is crying out in the night for a decent manager to run the place.

I left a message five days ago and have not received a response. To me that's DOA.
