LoBaido's closing this Saturday

An Allentown institution, LoBaido's, is closing this Saturday night, January 24. I've eaten there several times and always found the Italian food a step up from the expected, ordinary fare. I don't know the reason behind the closing; if I learn, I will share. Sorry to see it go -- perhaps it will resurface elsewhere in Allentown a la Louie's. Here's hoping we get another quality ethnic restaurant in its place.

According to the Morning Call's Retail Watch blog it's moving to Rascal's: http://blogs.mcall.com/retailwatch/2009/01/lobaidos-cafe-moving-to-rascals-entertainment-joint.html

extreme bummer. macungie is a bit too far out of the way for me to go, even for delicious homemade roasted garlic & cheese raviolis.

I heard that a soul food resturant will be taking its place on 8th and liberty.

I went Saturday night. The roasted garlic ravioli is my favorite thing on the menu and they were OUT! On the last night! It was heartbreaking. I wish them luck but I don't see their style fitting in at Rascal's.

I was told that a Cajun restaurant would be renting the spot at 8th and Liberty. Maybe this is where Black Orchid is going, if they don't reopen....?

Agreed re their style fitting in with the wings-and-nachos crowd at Rascals. It seems like an odd fit. I'd rather go to 8th and Liberty than Rascals.

LoBaidos and the chef Bernie moved to an industrial park across from St. Lukes North. His new place is called Bernardo's!
