Restaurant action - Main St. Bethlehem

I apologize for the delay in notification, but Tortilla Flat -- the Mexican restaurant on Main/Market in downtown Bethlehem -- closed in the late fall. However, we've seen activity inside and rumor is that another Mexican joint will take its place. Maybe that's bad mojo -- same concept, same location. (Let's hope the new restaurateur has better luck keeping customers from getting food poisoning.)

Is THAT what happened at Tortilla Flat? Is that why they closed?

Not completely, but it didn't help. The restaurant had an incident of food poisoning -- I think more than a dozen people got ill. It was traced to a sick employee. The restaurant was aboveboard with the city, press and public and took the right steps to remedy the problem. Unfortunately, the incident was in The Morning Call twice, then appeared two months after the fact in the Moravian College paper. Business was slow for about three months, then gradually picked up. I think there were other factors that led to the demise. Rumors I heard centered on financial management, but you can't be sure until you see the books.

Saw something French going on there on my walk to Wired Cafe last night. Might just be someone else's poster...

I think the poster is not related to the restaurant. We'll find out soon. I saw someone in there yesterday. If I have time, I'll knock on the door and see what's happening.

I had a really bad experience there related to service, and it was AFTER the FP incident. I had vowed never to go back.

Their biggest problem was the food wasn't that great and it was a little pricey.

I wish something new would go in this site. It is prime location.

If you are looking for a good mexican restaurant, I have frequented one in downtown Easton since they opened. It's called Mex-Tex Trio and it's on 3rd St. right next to the old Lipkins. I prefer it to Cactus Blue and the previous Tortilla Flats. It has a nice decor and the prices are good. I've taken several different groups of friends there for dinner and so far we've been very happy every time. There is a small public lot next door and it's directly across from the parking garage and the Easton police sub-station.

The Tex-Mex trio was opened by former staff of Tortilla Flat who had a falling out with management some time ago. I have been there and it's better than tortilla flat, but doesn't compare to La Lupita or Mexico Lindo.
