News about former Tortilla Flat
I met the owner of the restaurant location that used to be Tortilla Flat on Main and Market in Bethlehem. He's the former owner of the Lantern Restaurant in Bethlehem (now the Cuban-themed Nueva Lanterna). He said he plans to open a family restaurant -- kind of like a diner, but one step above. Homemade soups, comfort foods (Yankee pot roast, anyone?) and hearty sandwiches. A liquor license is in the window, so I assume he's keeping the bar. He's had contractors in the building for the past several weeks. I would expect it to open in April or May.

The Old Lantern was a real dive---I hope this guy is turning over a new leaf with this new restaurant
Very Cool, Mike. When do we dine for a review?
That is really a dissapointment. Not that the Mexican place was amazing by any means, but this sort of establishment really doesn't gel with downtown Bethlehem. Let them go to the former Pane Vino's on Schoenersville if they want diner food.
This will be no Billys!
I tend to agree with you, anon. I'd think something with more distinction and character would stand to profit more from the steady restaurant traffic on Main Street. A glorified diner doesn't do much to enhance the scene.
Any more updates on this? I walked by this weekend. I wrote the last anonymous posting....I really wish they would change the theme. That is a nice size restaurant and just totally bummed over a dinner.
I'd love to see more of a pub type atmosphere, especially with the new Moravian dorms going up by the library. Where is the vision!
I see a little bit of work there every day. After peering in yesterday, looks like they're still a month away. I'll talk with the owner next chance I get. The concept (if you can call it that) seems uninspired given the location.
FYI...I walked by today and there were some signs in the door about a South Beach type bar/restaurant?
I'll take this over a family restaurant!
Just wanted to make you aware.
TIKA is open! Just ate there tonight. There menu is very varied with some of the old mexian options of tacos and enchiladas, some burgers and wraps, more traditional dinner fare with seafood options and even surf and turf. Meals range from $6 or $7 all the way up to $45. Nice bar area with flat screen tvs too. Unfortunately our food was less than spectacular. Maybe chalk it up to working out the kinks on the first night.
