White Orchid has amazing Thai. It is in the Promenade. I had a great night out with my wife. The Thai beer was a letdown. They were accommodating to my wife's celiac disease and made an extra spicy dish to order for my liking. Big thumbs up!!

Thanks so much for all your work on this blog! I've found it to be a truly invaluable resource over the past couple years, and I shudder to think of the mediocre meals I put up with before that. As a restaurant-obsessed NYC resident who is only occasionally in Allentown to visit family, I had no idea where to start looking for good food. This site was exactly what I needed, and I've really enjoyed exploring the Lehigh Valley a bit more on my trips.

Hi all, glad I found this site, as I too am always in search of great eateries in the LV.

Went to Made in Brazil with some friends several weeks back - please save your money and skip it. Was so excited by the prospect of a churrascaria in Allentown. However, all the meat was tough and overcooked, plus the salad bar had barely any dishes - a couple of chicken salads and shrimp lo mein (am I the only one that thinks this is odd?). Hope they get better, but until I hear of improvements, not going back.

My friend and I ate at Indian City Restaurant several months ago at the behest of a windshield flyer left by the owner's son on the truck. I had never had Indian before. We just a made the Saturday buffet pricing. I would recommend that any one try this great little restaurant at the Hudson St. traffic light on South Main. The goat was especially tasty.

I admire the owners for taking on the task of running a small business while educating the Lehigh Valley about their cuisine. It's no small feat in an oddly configured space with minimal staff and a menu with unfamiliar ingredients.

For me, Alando and Charly's Thai are places where I can get hooked on one dish, and pick up take-out when I get a craving; on the other hand, I've enjoyed everything I've ever had from Kow Thai and Olive Branch and frequently order specials. I love that the Lehigh Valley hosts so many great hole-in-the-wall joints, owned by ambassadors who know their stuff who enjoy cooking up affordable cuisine for locals.

Have been to Alando twice and it was outstanding each time. Truly authentic Kenyan is a nice change of pace in the LV. People have to recognize the diversity in cuisine and culture in each country or ethnic group and not compare unrelated traditions. In India alone there are hundreds of culinary traditions. This is not to mention individual style and capacity of chefs/owners.

That being said, Alando would do well with more visible exterior signage. And, the wait staff could use a little spunk and organization. But, it is a family run business and that is all part of the experience as with many of the truly ethnic places of business.

I can highly recommend Alando, in particular the green grams and coconut chicken, and I hope they do well.
